Where QuickBooks things live in LedgerBarn

If you ran QuickBooks Desktop, you already know the words. Here is where each familiar window lives, so you can sit down and work on day one.

  1. Customer Center: CustomersAdd Customer, Create Estimate, Create Invoice, Receive Payment, Statements, Prepayment, and Refund. Click any customer to see their invoices, estimates, and payments on one page. A/R Aging is under Reports.
  2. Vendor Center: VendorsAdd Vendor, Enter Bill, Pay Bills, and Apply Checks to Bills for checks you already wrote. Click a vendor for their full history. The 1099s button shows who gets one at year end; A/P Aging and the 1099 Summary are under Reports.
  3. Employee Center and payroll: EmployeesAdd Employee, Run Payroll, Pay Tax Deposits, and Payroll Forms. Each payday fills a payroll liabilities account; Record payment on the Taxes tab empties it, just like Pay Liabilities.
  4. Write Checks, Make Deposits, Bank Feeds: BankingWrite Check, Make Deposit, Credit Card Charge, Undeposited Funds, and Memorized for the bills you enter every month. Match Transactions is the bank feed: connect the account to your bank, or download the file from your bank, and match what comes in to the register. Reconcile is right beside it.
  5. Chart of Accounts and the accountant's toolsChart of Accounts holds your accounts and categories, plus Opening balances, Journal entries, Rules, Users, and Preferences. Split a transaction across categories right in the register.
  6. ReportsProfit & Loss in QuickBooks' own bands (Gross Profit, Net Ordinary Income, then Other), with prior-year and percent-of-income columns. Also Balance Sheet, A/R and A/P Aging, General Ledger, Trial Balance, Audit Trail, 1099 Summary, and Payroll Summary. Cash or accrual; Print or save as PDF.
  7. Sales tax and the counterSales tax codes and the liability report live on the Taxes tab. Point of Sale rings up a walk-in sale paid on the spot, and it lands in Undeposited Funds until you make the deposit.
